UM dominates two wins in Dr Wahid Invitational Memorial Chess Tournament

The Dr. Wahid Karim Invitational Memorial Chess Tournament is an event organized in memory of the late Dr. Wahid Karim, a prominent figure in RSC Kiara Chess Club. Dr. Wahid Karim was not only a passionate chess player but also a visionary who dedicated his life in the chess club community. His relentless efforts and unwavering commitment to chess have left an indelible mark on the chess club community.
On 4 June 2023, two students from University Malaya had won first and second place in the chess tournament. IM Yeoh Li Tian and FM Wong Yinn Long had leading among strong players in 7 round Swiss rapid event with score 6.5 and 6 respectively.
In the recent interview with IM Yeoh Li Tian, he was excited to compete with other good players. Yeoh Li Tian who had graduated Master in University Malaya said his next target is to be awarded with Grandmaster (GM) title.
Wong Yinn Long that wins second and Kavin Mohan that wins third place score same points which is 6. Kavin Mohan also had been awarded as J15 Challenger, the youngest player that had high ranking in this tournament.
